UEFA and FIFPRO execute a partnership agreement

Europe’s soccer governing body announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a partnership agreement with FIFPRO, which will grant the global players’ union a representative on its executive committee.

For the first time, FIFPRO will be represented on the UEFA Executive Committee, initially in an advisory capacity, beginning in May of next year.

In a statement, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin stated, “Players are at the core of football, and their perspectives must inform the decisions that are made.”

“By inviting them to join the UEFA Executive Committee, we are creating a more inclusive future for the game, one in which the topic of player welfare will be at the forefront.”

FIFPRO will now participate in discussions regarding any decision that will affect the responsibilities or employment conditions of athletes.

Several players have expressed their readiness to strike in response to the issue of the ever-expanding fixture schedule. This is due to the inclusion of additional games in European club competitions and the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which is scheduled to occur at the conclusion of the current season.

“This agreement is a significant milestone for professional players throughout Europe,” stated David Terrier, President of FIFPRO Europe.

“With player representation now anchored at UEFA’s highest level, we are securing a stronger voice for players where it matters most.”
