Russia, Iran, and China want to split Americans before the elections on November 5th, according to a US spy officer

Although they are unlikely to be able to influence the contests on a large enough scale to influence the outcome of the presidential race, an American intelligence official stated on Tuesday that Russia, Iran, and China are determined to spread divisive narratives to split Americans ahead of the Nov. 5 U.S. elections.

“Foreign actors may consider physical threats and violence during the pre-election period and after the election, and they are likely to conduct post-election disinformation operations to create uncertainty and undermine the election process,” the official told reporters during a briefing.

“Foreign actors, especially China, Russia, and Iran, are still determined to spread false information in an effort to polarize Americans and erode their trust in the American democratic system. Even as their strategies continue to change, these actions are in line with what these actors believe to be in their best interests,” the Office of the Director of National Intelligence official stated.

“The intelligence community expects foreign influence efforts with intensify in the lead up to Election Day, especially through social media posts,” added the person.

According to the official, who briefed reporters under condition of anonymity, some of those posts are probably the result of artificial intelligence.

The official cited, for instance, a post published earlier this month on the social networking site X by what he described as Russian influence players, which made an unsubstantiated accusation against Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota and Democratic vice presidential candidate.

According to the person, intelligence services determined that the information was produced by Russian influence agents. According to the source, an agency analysis of the media revealed “several indicators of manipulation” that aligned with the activities of Russian actors.
