After leaving Liverpool, Klopp takes on his first job as world soccer manager for Red Bull

Red Bull, the owners of several teams including RB Leipzig and the New York Red Bulls, said on Wednesday that German coach Juergen Klopp has been named head of global soccer. This is Klopp’s first job since leaving Liverpool earlier this year.

Klopp finished a successful nine-year run with Liverpool at the end of last season. He will begin his new job on January 1, 2025.

After being out of the game for almost 25 years, Klopp said in a statement, “I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this.” Klopp has also managed Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund.

“The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not.”

He took over Liverpool in October 2015 and won the Community Shield, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Super Cup, and the English League title, which was their first title since 1990. He also won the Champions League.

Klopp also led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles, a German Cup, and the final of the Champions League in 2013. In January, he said he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

He wrote on social media that he didn’t want to work from the bench anymore but was ready to go back to work in some other way.

I still love working and I still love football,” Klopp said in an Instagram video. “Red Bull gives me the right platform for that.”

“I want to talk about what I went through… I want to learn again because I barely have time for that when I work full-time and play every three days. Now I do. He also said, “I want to see, feel, and figure out what is good for football.”

Red Bull said that Klopp will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the clubs it owns in Germany, the US, Brazil, and Austria.

“He will provide strategic vision, supporting individual sporting directors in advancing the Red Bull philosophy,” said Red Bull.

Klopp will also help the club with its global scouting efforts and give coaches training and support.

“I think of my main job as being a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs, but I’m also a part of a unique, forward-looking organization.” “Like I said, this couldn’t get any more exciting for me,” Klopp said.

Some German news outlets said that his deal with Red Bull had an escape clause for the job of coach of the Germany national team.

Klopp has been linked to that job for a long time, especially after his successful time at Liverpool and the fact that Germany has had a hard time making a mark on the world stage over the last ten years.
