Stars from South Africa and Nigeria Predominate in the 2024 MTV EMA Nominations

The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) will shine a light on Africa’s blossoming talent with nominations for multiple African stars.

Nominees for Best African Act include Ayra Starr and Asake of Nigeria, Diamond Platnumz of Tanzania, Tyla of South Africa, and DBN Gogo, who is both a singer and a DJ. Yuppe and TitoM, two up-and-coming artists best known for their smash single “Tshwala Bam,” will be joining them.

Additionally, Tyla, Ayra Starr, Asake, Burna Boy, Tems, and the Best Afrobeats category—which was introduced at the 2017 EMAs—have all managed to secure slots. Rema is returning to defend his championship after winning it in 2023.

Meanwhile, Tyla’s genre-bending talent has been further recognized with further nominations for Best R&B and Best New Artist, continuing her stratospheric climb. With her Best New Artist nomination and Best Push win, Ayra Starr solidifies her place as a rising star in the Afrobeats industry.

On Sunday, November 10, 2024, the MTV EMAs will be held at the Co-Op Live in Manchester. Up until November 6, fans may choose their favorite musicians on the official MTV EMAs website.
