The player who was in England’s Under-18 team is called up by Portugal

Many teams want to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Mateus Mane after Portugal added the 17-year-old to their Under-18 group on Friday, just one day after England did the same.

Liam Bramley, the coach of the England school team, called Mane up for a second straight youth camp before the team goes to Marbella this month for a four-team tournament.

Mane can play for both teams because he played last season for Portugal’s Under-17 team. Each country can call up the player because the Under-18 team is not part of UEFA.

Last month, he played his first game for England against Portugal’s Under-18 team. Mane is now part of Portugal’s squad for an event with four other countries this month.

Mane can only play for one team at a time because both tournaments are going on at the same time. Both Wolves and England announced that he would be on Bramley’s team.

Reuters has asked Portugal’s football body for more information.

Players with more than one nationality can play for more than one country if they are qualified, but they can’t switch teams at the senior level unless they have only played in friendly games for the first country.
