A total of 28 suspected Maoists are killed by Indian security forces in the state of Chhattisgarh
According to the police, 28 suspected Maoist rebels were slain in a gunbattle in the central state of Chhattisgarh by Indian security forces on Friday.
The officers and the suspected insurgents engaged in combat while the police were conducting a search in the areas bordering the Narayanpur and Dantewada districts.
For decades, the rebels have engaged in a guerrilla-style offensive against the government, particularly in central and eastern India, and adhere to a form of communism that was promoted by the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong. This has resulted in periodic confrontations and casualties on both sides.
No information was provided by the police regarding the number of casualties among their personnel in this incident.
