The Spanish sports minister is planning “severe” punishments for events in the Atletico-Real Madrid derby

Atletico Madrid vs. Real Madrid last weekend at Atletico’s Civitas Metropolitano stadium saw a lot of violence. On Tuesday, Sports Minister Pilar Alegria said that those guilty would face “forceful and severe” punishments.

Referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer stopped the game for a few minutes because some Atletico fans threw objects onto the field at Real Madrid goalie Thibaut Courtois.

Alegria told a news conference that the Spanish government wants to stop fighting at sports stadiums.
