Israel claims it has gotten a $8.7 billion help package from the US

Israel said Thursday that it had received a $8.7 billion aid package from the US to help its current military efforts and keep a strong military edge in the region.

The package comes with $5.2 billion for air defense systems, such as the Iron Dome anti-missile system, David’s Sling, and an advanced laser system. The first $3.5 billion has already been received and set aside for important military purchases.

Israel is fighting two wars at the moment: one against Hamas, an Islamist group in Gaza, and another against Hezbollah, a movement in Lebanon backed by Iran.

Israel’s Defense Ministry said in a statement that the announcement of help came after talks at the Pentagon between Eyal Zamir, who is in charge of the ministry’s defense, and U.S. defense officials, such as Amanda Dory, who is acting as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.

“This substantial investment will significantly strengthen critical systems such as Iron Dome and David’s Sling while supporting the continued development of an advanced high-powered laser defense system currently in its later stages of development,” it stated.

The ministry said the deal shows the “strong and enduring strategic partnership between Israel and the United States and the ironclad commitment to Israel’s security.” This is especially true when it comes to dealing with threats to regional security from Iran and militias backed by Iran.
