11 people are killed in a shootout with police in northern Mexico

The government of the northern state of Nuevo Leon said late Wednesday that 11 of the armed attackers were killed in a shootout between police and an accused criminal group.

The thieves pulled up to the police station that morning in the small town of General Teran, which is about 100 km southeast of Monterrey, a major industrial hub, and shot at the building, the government said.

The guys are thought to have been part of a criminal gang that works out of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, which is on the border with Texas, according to a statement from the state’s security minister.

Experts in security say the Northeast Cartel is in the area, but the minister did not name the group.

The Civil Force of the State Police, the National Guard, and the Army began looking for the group after the killing. The government said they caught a man wearing camouflage and carrying a long gun.

It called the 30-year-old guy Alejandro “N,” which is how people who are suspected of crimes are usually named in this country.

The search went on after the man was arrested, and along the highway east of Monterrey, the group found a group of about eight trucks carrying armed men.

The government said that shooting started at the beginning of the chase. 11 of the criminals were killed by the police in the end. According to the state, no security staff were hurt in the fight.

Authorities said that six pick-up trucks were taken away after the fight, which suggests that two trucks got away.
