Simba, Enyimba, and USM Alger up to the CAFCC group stages

With USM Alger, Simba, and Enyimba among the most well-known players to advance to the CAF Confederation Cup group rounds, there were no significant upsets on Sunday.

At the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, USM Alger overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat Stade Tunisien 2-0 and advance 2-1 overall.

Kevin Mondeko’s goal in the 75th minute broke the tie, and Bilel Mejri’s own goal in stoppage time guaranteed the 2022–23 champions’ advancement to the competition’s main stage.

At the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, after coming from behind to win 3-1, Simba proved to be too strong for Al Ahli Tripoli.

The visitors took an unexpected lead in the eighteenth minute, but the Msimbazi Reds responded with two goals before halftime from Denis Kibu (36′) and Leonel Ateba (45+1′), before Edwin Balua completed the victory in stoppage time.

At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Enyimba defeated Etoile Filante 3-2 in a nail-biting shootout to advance as one of three teams to face penalties.

This came after both legs finished in scoreless draws, and in an exciting match in Alexandria, Al Masry defeated Al Hilal Benghazi 5-3 on penalties after an overall score of 5-5.

Despite trailing 3-2 in the first leg, Al Masry emerged victorious 3-2 at the Borg El Arab Stadium and persevered in the shootout lottery to advance further in the competition.

At the Stade des Martyrs, debutants Stellenbosch secured their spot in the group stages by tying AS Vita Club 1-1.

With a 2-0 lead from the first leg and an away goal in Kinshasa, the Maroons were well-positioned to advance to the group stages.
