Roma fire De Rossi, head coach
After losing their first four league games of the season, AS Roma fired head coach Daniele De Rossi, the Serie A team announced on Wednesday.
After Jose Mourinho was sacked as head coach in January, De Rossi, a player for nearly two decades at Roma, assumed the position.
Before agreeing to a contract extension through 2027, the 41-year-old guided Roma to a semi-final appearance in the Europa League and a sixth-place finish in Serie A.
With the addition of Artem Dovbyk, Matias Soule, and other players during the summer transfer window, Roma, under De Rossi, strengthened their offensive line.
But at the beginning of their 2024–25 Serie A season, they managed just two goals as they lost and drew three times, with De Rossi ruining the team’s lack of opportunity creation.
Roma released a statement stating, “Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team.”
“The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.”
On Sunday, Roma, who lost a late equalizer to draw 1-1 with Genoa over the weekend, will play home to leaders Udinese.
