Diddy, the rapper, will stay in jail after being turned down for bail
Sean “Diddy” Combs, 54, was turned down for bail after his $50 million bond request was turned down by a New York judge on Tuesday (17.09.24).
Combs, who had pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for prostitutes, tried to get his family to co-sign a large bond package to get him released.
Diddy’s lawyers, Marc Agnfilo and Teny R. Geragos, sent in the plan, which had a $50 million bond backed by Combs’ Miami home and his mother’s property. The bond was backed by his mother Janice Combs, sister Keisha Combs, and three boys who gave up their passports after his homes were raided in March. The rapper’s lawyers said that limited his travel to Florida, New York, and New Jersey would make sure that he followed the court’s orders.
In a letter that E! News got, Diddy’s lawyers stressed how determined he was to prove his innocence in court. As proof that Combs was neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community, they said that when he found out that he was going to be charged, he went to New York on his own to cooperate with the police.
But US Attorney Damian Williams said no to the bail request because Combs was a flight risk and a threat to the community. Williams also talked about the rapper’s past of drug abuse and anger management problems, which he said could not be controlled by bail conditions. Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky agreed with the government and turned down the bail request.
Combs, who started Bad Boy Records, is still being held in jail until his next court date on September 25, where he hopes to fight the charges.
