Amazon will discontinue its flexible work policy and require corporate employees to adhere to a five-day office week

Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, has ordered all workers to go back to work five days a week. This means that the company’s flexible work policy is over for good.

Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, said that the company will go back to the way things were before the pandemic. Starting January 2, 2025, corporate workers will have to work from the office five days a week.

In a memo sent to workers, Jassy said that Amazon’s leaders have been thinking again about how to improve teamwork, creativity, and customer satisfaction.

“When we think about the last five years, we still think that working together has big benefits,” Jassy wrote.

Amazon’s current policy says that corporate employees have to work from the office three days a week. This move is a big change from that policy.

The change comes after a time of freedom during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many businesses let employees work from home.

“It’s easier for employees to learn, model, practice, strengthen our culture, and brainstorm when they’re together in person,” Jassy said about what’s good about face-to-face interactions.

He also said, “If anything, the 15 months we’ve spent back at the office at least three days a week has made us more sure of the benefits.”

Amazon’s current policy says that corporate employees have to work from the office three days a week. This choice is different from that.

Jassy said that getting workers back to the office full-time would help with problems with working together and coming up with new ideas.

“When employees are in the same room, they can learn, model, practice, strengthen our culture, and come up with new ideas more easily,”

Amazon made a change to its work policy in 2021 that let managers decide how to organize teams.

But in February 2023, the company made workers come to the office three days a week, which made some employees angry.

Jassy told workers who didn’t like the change to either “disagree and commit” or think about leaving, and he told those who didn’t, “It’s probably not going to work out.”

The new rule will apply to all Amazon corporate workers around the world starting January 2, 2025.
