Anthony of Manchester United must earn playing time, according to Ten Hag

Manchester United winger Antony is needed to demonstrate consistency in training in order to secure his position on the squad, according to Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Premier League side.

Despite being acquired from Ajax Amsterdam in 2022 for an estimated original cost of 80.75 million pounds ($106.57 million), Antony has not made a significant impact at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has chosen to select former academy players Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho instead, resulting in the Brazilian international having just one appearance this season, indicating a decline in his position in the hierarchy.

When questioned about Antony’s limited playing time, Ten Hag categorically stated on Monday: “That is the epitome of professional football, the pinnacle of football.” Such are the regulations. Select the team that you believe has the highest probability of winning a game.

“The players must engage in fierce competition to secure their positions.” In anticipation of United’s League Cup match against Barnsley on Wednesday, the Dutch manager emphasized the need of selecting the 11 players that had the highest level of dynamic and chemistry.

“Now Antonio must recover, and he possesses the necessary skills to do so.” With proper execution, he has the ability to rival them. He is engaged in a struggle to secure his position. That is our expectation from every player in the Manchester United group, the expected performance they should achieve.

“We have dedicated daily training sessions, and the players must earn their privileges.” Participation in games is contingent upon a positive attitude and shown performance during training.

Following their meeting against Barnsley on Tuesday, United will travel to play Crystal Palace in a league fixture on Saturday.
