Benched for a maximum of four months, Bennacer

AC Milan has verified that Ismael Bennacer has sustained a “severe” calf injury, which is expected to necessitate his absence for three to four months.

The Algerian international was unable to participate in the 3-0 victory over Liberia on Tuesday due to an injury sustained during training on an artificial field. This injury occurred in preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, which will be played on a similar surface at the SKD Stadium in Monrovia.

Bennacer promptly returned to Milan for additional medical examinations, which identified a “severe lesion of the medial gastrocnemius muscle in the right calf.”

The news is yet another setback for the 26-year-old midfielder at the San Siro, as he was sidelined for the first four months of the 2023-24 season due to a knee injury that necessitated surgery.

Bennacer was the first to commence the new Serie A campaign, as the Rossoneri played to a 2-2 draw with Torino on August 17. However, it is now anticipated that he will return in the new year.
