Ex-Celta captain Mallo was found guilty of assaulting a lady while she was dressed as a mascot

A Barcelona court convicted Hugo Mallo, the former captain of Celta Vigo, guilty on Thursday of sexually abusing a woman before a 2019 La Liga match while she was dressed as the team mascot for rival team Espanyol.

As players lined up to shake hands before the game started, Mallo, 33, who currently plays for Greek club Aris, caressed the breasts of the lady dressed as the parrot mascot for Espanyol, according to the court verdict.

Mallo declared in a statement that he would be appealing the decision and that he had done nothing wrong.

He was mandated to pay the victim an extra 1,000 euros in compensation in addition to a fine of 6,000 euros ($6,629).

Additionally, Mallo is liable for paying all trial-related legal fees.

One dollar is equivalent to 0.9051 euros.
