Dick Cheney, the former Vice President of the United States, has expressed his support for Kamala Harris

Cheney, the former vice president of the United States, has disclosed his intention to vote for Kamala Harris, characterizing Trump as a menace to democracy.

In the upcoming presidential election in November, former US Vice President and lifelong Republican Dick Cheney has declared his intention to vote for the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris.

Mr. Cheney, who was regarded as a significant figure during the presidency of George W. Bush, released a statement in which he asserted that the current Republican candidate, Donald Trump, was the most significant threat to the republic.

His daughter, Liz Cheney, a former Republican lawmaker, had previously disclosed to an audience in Texas that her father intended to endorse the Democratic nominee.

Mr. Cheney stated, “He, Trump, attempted to steal the last election by employing lies and violence to maintain his power after the voters had rejected him.” “He can never be trusted with power again.”

“It is incumbent upon each of us, as citizens, to prioritize our country over partisanship in order to safeguard our constitution,” he concluded. “That is the reason I will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

The Harris camp enthusiastically embraced Mr. Cheney’s remarks.

Jen O’Malley Dillon, the campaign chair, expressed her admiration for Vice President Cheney’s courage in prioritizing the country over party, stating, “The vice-president is proud to have his support.”

Mr. Cheney has become the latest member of a growing number of Republicans who have expressed apprehension regarding Donald Trump’s candidacy.

Vice President Harris has already received the support of his daughter, Liz Cheney.

She was a member of the House select committee that reviewed the Capitol rioting on January 6, and she was one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach former President Trump in the aftermath of the incident.

The 2022 election resulted in Ms. Cheney’s defeat in Congress to a candidate who was supported by President Trump.

Trump referred to the former vice president as a “irrelevant RINO” on social media in response to Mr. Cheney’s statement. The acronym “RINO” stands for “Republican in name only.”

Additionally, he referred to Mr. Cheney as the “King of Endless, Nonsensical Wars,” a reference to his involvement in the Iraq War.
