Shakira resolved a tax fraud case in order to safeguard her children

In an effort to “protect” her children, Shakira resolved her Spanish tax case.

Shakira, a 47-year-old pop icon, consented to a $7.5 million fine in her tax fraud case last year. However, she maintains that she was not at fault.

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo quoted the “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker, who has sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, with former soccer star Gerard Pique. She stated, “I want to leave my children the legacy of a woman who explained her reasons calmly and in her own time, when she considered it necessary, not when she was forced to.”

“I require them to understand that I made the decisions I did in order to safeguard them, remain by their side, and continue with my life.” Not as a result of fear or remorse.

Shakira alleged that the Spanish authorities “burned [her] at the stake” in order to enhance their own image.

The pop diva opted to reside in Spain as an expatriate in 2015, and she was subsequently charged with tax fraudin 2018.

Shakira, who separated from Gerard in 2022, further stated, “What appeared to be a polite approach to formalizing my situation ultimately proved to be a trap.”

“A person who is currently engaged in a romantic relationship with a resident of a particular location cannot aspire to become a tax resident of that location.”

Shakira maintained that she has consistently met her tax obligations; however, she believes that the present moment is the appropriate time to express her concerns.
