Lupita Nyong’o Debuts Podcast Honoring African Voices

Lupita Nyong’o, an Oscar-winning Kenyan actress, is embarking on a new form of storytelling with the release of her forthcoming podcast, Mind Your Own.

The 10-part series is expected to provide a distinctive examination of identity and culture by delving deeply into the personal narratives of Africans in the diaspora.

Nyong’o’s podcast will convey listeners to cities such as Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Toronto, and Kampala, as she announced the project alongside the release of its official trailer.

In the trailer, Nyong’o discloses that Mind Your Own was the result of a profound yearning to hear narratives that were in alignment with her personal experiences. She aspired to transcend the headlines regarding Africans and provide individuals with the opportunity to share their own “nuanced, intimate stories.” She adds, “I am motivated to assist in the dissemination of these stories, as well as to share a few of my own.” The trailer concludes with a poignant statement: “We are returning home.”

The endeavor is deeply personal to Nyong’o. She is intimately acquainted with the intricacies of being a member of the African diaspora, having been born in Mexico, raised in Kenya, and spent the past two decades in the United States in particular. She is motivated by this lived experience to establish a platform that facilitates the open sharing of these stories and to authentically represent the African journey.

Two episodes of Mind Your Own will be released on September 19, and they will be accessible on all main podcast platforms. Listeners will be invited on a journey into the core of the African diaspora, one story at a time, as new episodes are released on a weekly basis.
