No green, no issue for the Eagles as the historic game is influenced by the Brazil soccer rivalry

Despite being the home team against the Green Bay Packers, the Philadelphia Eagles will not be donning their traditional green kit when they enter Sao Paulo’s Corinthians Arena on Friday for Brazil’s first-ever NFL game.

The Eagles made the decision to wear white jerseys, black pants, and black helmets, a combination that they themselves stated has never been seen before by supporters. This decision was made in response to numerous media reports regarding a color conflict with the stadium’s owner.

Corinthians, a Brazilian soccer team, are not only black and white, but they also harbor animosity toward the color green, which is the color of their local arch-rivals, Palmeiras. The club is notorious for prohibiting players and staff from donning green attire due to their intense animosity.

However, the Eagles appear to be unconcerned about the fact that they will not be able to don their home colors in the season opener.

“I have not conducted an extensive investigation.” “I am aware that there is some history there, but I am unable to comment on it,” quarterback Jalen Hurts stated during a press conference. “Just to have an opportunity to play the game and expose the game to you guys is fun.”

Don Smolenski and Augusto Melo, the presidents of the Eagles and Corinthians, exchanged jerseys during the Philadelphia team’s practice session at the Corinthians Arena on Thursday. Both jerseys were white.

Some players appeared to be perplexed by the “forbidden” color at the Corinthians stadium.

“They stated that the region of Brazil to which we are traveling is not even permitted to wear green.” In June, Packers running back Josh Jacobs incorrectly stated, “They said, I guess, something to do with the gangs and stuff.”

Subsequently, he expressed regret, asserting that he was misinformed.

The Packers will compete in their home green-and-yellow uniform on Friday, in addition to the fact that individuals are permitted to wear green in Sao Paulo. The Wisconsin team is relying on the similarities between the colors of the Brazilian flag and their own to secure support.

“I am optimistic that all of our Brazilian fans will attend tomorrow and support the green and gold,” stated head coach Matt LaFleur on Thursday. “We anticipate that it will provide us with a home field advantage.” “We have had an excellent experience thus far.”

The Packers had the opportunity to practice at Corinthians’ training ground prior to the contest and also organized a jersey swap. Hugo Souza, the custodian of the Brazilian club, presented cornerback Jaire Alexander with a white shirt; however, Alexander received a green Packers jersey in exchange.

Corinthians supporters expressed their dissatisfaction on social media, stating that it was peculiar to observe their team’s name on a green kit. Palmeiras did not neglect the opportunity to unfairly exploit their opponents.

Sao Paulo’s green side wrote on Instagram, “There is no point: it is impossible to escape Verdao (the Big Green).”

Two of the most successful organizations in Brazilian soccer are Corinthians and Palmeiras, whose rivalry has been in existence since the 1910s.
