Jamie Foxx’s ‘Intimate’ One-Man Show on His ‘Serious Health Scare’: What We Know So Far

Oct. 3 through 5 will be the dates of the three-night performance in Atlanta.

Jamie Foxx is delving into his personal life.

On Monday, September 2, the Oscar-winning actor disclosed additional information regarding his forthcoming “unforgettable one-man show.” He stated on Instagram that he will “[take] the stage to share his journey through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart, and inspiration.”

The show, titled “One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx,” will be held in Atlanta on three consecutive nights from October 3 to 5. Tickets will be available shortly.

The Instagram post of Foxx featured a black box with the words “WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS,” followed by a more detailed description of the performance in the caption.

The Monday post shared by Jamie Foxx, 56, continued with the caption, “Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and engaging performance, as he opens up about his struggles, triumphs, and everything in between.”

The publication concluded, “Get ready for a night of laughter, reflection, and genuine connection.”

The Back in Action star’s recently announced venture was met with enthusiasm in the comments section, with Chance the Rapper stating, “I’m there.”

Added Questlove, “Damn, I might have to roll to this jawn.”

Foxx’s announcement is made six months after he attended the 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards, during which he hinted that he would eventually be discussing his health journey in an upcoming stand-up comedy special.

At the time, while accepting the AAFCA’s Producers Award for his company Foxxhole Productions, he stated, “Everyone wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you how it happened, but I have to do it in my own way.”

In April 2023, Foxx was in the midst of filming the Netflix film Back in Action when he experienced a “medical complication” that prevented him from being in the public view for several months. The film will be available for streaming on January 17, as Netflix announced late last month. He and his costar, Cameron Diaz, were observed filming again in January.

A few days prior to his appearance at the AAFCA Special Achievement Awards in March, Foxx announced his intention to resume live comedy performances. He uploaded a video from his 2002 HBO stand-up special, I Might Need Security, to Instagram.

“I am going to appear on a stage in your vicinity.” The They Cloned Tyrone actor wrote in a caption to the video, “I have a story to tell and some jokes.”

Foxx disclosed additional information regarding the enigmatic illness that resulted in his hospitalization in July. He informed a gathering of individuals at an outdoor café in Phoenix that he was experiencing a “pretty severe headache” and had “requested an Advil from my son.”

In a video shared by The Art of the Dialogue on X (formerly known as Twitter), the actor was seen snapping his fingertips. He then stated, “I was gone for 20 days,” before adding, “I don’t remember anything.”

“So they informed me that my sister and daughter, Deidra Dixon and Corinne Foxx, took me to the first doctor while I was in Atlanta,” Foxx stated.

“They administered a cortisone injection to me,” he informed the accompanying woman. The Mayo Clinic explains that a cortisone injection is administered to alleviate “pain, swelling, and irritation.”

Foxx indicated his cranium, stating, “The subsequent physician stated that there is an issue in that area.” On camera, I will refrain from uttering it. Nevertheless, it was…” before shrugging and fading off as the video concluded.
