An attack involving a Russian drone and missile occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals in Lviv, a city located in western Ukraine. Among the victims were four individuals from the same family. This information was confirmed by local officials.
The mayor of Lviv, a city in close proximity to the border with NATO member Poland, has reported that Yaroslav Bazylevych, an individual residing in the area, tragically lost his wife and three young daughters as a result of their residence being struck.
“Russia is engaging in the elimination of Ukrainians by targeting and causing the demise of entire families, situated in the central region of Europe.” Mayor Andriy Sadovyi expressed his concerns about the Russians causing harm to our children and jeopardizing our future through a statement on social media.
According to Sadovyi, Bazylevych’s daughters were aged seven, 18, and 21 years old. The mayor previously reported that three children were fatally injured in the attack that occurred on Wednesday.
The videos obtained from the site depict emergency service workers engaged in the task of removing deceased individuals from a residential building that has suffered damage. In one instance, a distressed woman can be seen desperately seeking information regarding the whereabouts of her daughter and granddaughters.
A video was posted by Ukraine’s state emergency service, depicting rescuers conducting the retrieval of a presumed deceased girl from beneath the debris.
The emergency services have reported that a total of 53 individuals, including seven children, sustained injuries in the Lviv attack.
Russia has consistently denied any intentional targeting of civilians during its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which commenced over 30 months ago. However, Russia maintains that Ukrainian military, energy, and transport infrastructure are legitimate military objectives.
A significant number of Ukrainian civilians have lost their lives as a result of the ongoing conflict.
According to Ukrainian officials, energy facilities and other critical infrastructure in nine Ukrainian regions were targeted by Russian attacks within the last 24 hours.
On Wednesday, a series of strikes occurred in Lviv, resulting in damage to historic buildings in the city center. These strikes followed the most devastating attack of the year, which took place the day before in Poltava, Ukraine. During this attack, Russia launched two ballistic missiles at a military institute, resulting in the death of 50 individuals and causing injuries to hundreds of others.
The precision strike in Poltava, as reported by Russia’s Defence Ministry on Wednesday, specifically targeted a Ukrainian armed forces’ center. This center was known for training foreign instructors in the fields of communications, electronic warfare, and drone operations.
The ministry reported that in Lviv, it employed hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and drones to target defense enterprises responsible for the production and maintenance of electronic components for aircraft and missile weaponry used by the Ukrainian armed forces.
The Ukrainian air force has reported that Russia conducted an overnight attack, deploying a total of 13 missiles, specifically two Kh-47 M2 Kinzhal missiles. The air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a total of seven enemy aircraft, in addition to neutralizing 22 out of 29 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) deployed throughout the country in the most recent attack, as reported.
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, emphasized the potential for allies to contribute to the cessation of “terror” by increasing the provision of air defenses. He reiterated his call for them to authorize the utilization of long-range Western weaponry within Russian territory.
Moscow announced on Wednesday its intention to implement a highly impactful response in the event that Ukraine carries out long-range strikes on Russian territory.
The mayor of Lviv, Sadovyi, reported on national television that a total of 156 structures, which include schools, homes, and clinics, have suffered damage.

According to Serhiy Lysak, the regional governor of Dnipropetrovsk, Russia carried out an attack on the central city of Kryvyi Rih on Wednesday. This attack resulted in injuries to five individuals, including a 10-year-old child, and caused damage to several buildings.
In the past 10 days, Russia has initiated a series of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine. This military action is being referred to by some Russian military bloggers as Moscow’s reaction to a recent incursion by Ukrainian forces into Russian territory, which is still ongoing.
According to the operational command of the Polish armed forces, Poland deployed aircraft on Wednesday for the third time within a span of eight days in order to ensure the security of its airspace. Lviv is located approximately 70 km (43 miles) away from the Polish border.
