Six murder suspects are slain in a gunfight with South African law enforcement

In a shootout with South African police in the city of Durban late on Monday, six individuals wanted for murder and extortion were slain, according to authorities.

Authorities claimed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects, who were connected to a triple homicide on Friday and the execution-style killing of four more persons on Sunday, were shot and killed after engaging in gunfire with police at a vacation rental close to the city’s South Beach neighborhood.

According to police figures released last week, between April and June, there were an average of 68 murders per day in South Africa, which has one of the worst murder rates in the world.

Since the killings on Sunday, when the suspects shot their victims in the back of the head after telling them to lie down, police had been following the culprits.

Police stated that they thought the individuals were also involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

Senzo Mchunu, the minister of police, is scheduled to brief MPs on Tuesday afternoon regarding the high prevalence of extortion in the nation.
