England’s head coach, Carsley, has selected Gomes and Livramento for the initial squad
Lee Carsley, the interim manager of England, selected uncapped players Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Noni Madueke in his inaugural squad on Thursday.
Carsley, who was designated interim manager in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s resignation following the recent European Championship, failed to include defender Kyle Walker in his squad. Additionally, Luke Shaw and Jude Bellingham were unavailable due to injuries.
The roster has also been depleted of striker Ivan Toney and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, while forward Jack Grealish and center back Harry Maguire have been recalled.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was designated as a defender, his typical position, in the squad, rather than as a midfielder, a position in which he was occasionally employed by Southgate during Euro 2024.
Carsley collaborated with Gomes, Livramento, Gibbs-White, and Madueke during his tenure as England’s Under-21 coach.
“It was important to put my own stamp on the squad, but also recognize how well they have done in the past,” according to Carsley.
“We have to recognise that but I thought it was important that we put some fresh faces in and put our own little mark on the squad.”
Kieran Trippier, a Newcastle United defender, declared his retirement from international football on Thursday, shortly before the squad was revealed.
“I think it was important to get players and staff around me who understand how I work and how I want to see a camp run, understand the quick turnaround between meet-up and playing games,” according to Carsley.
In the Nations League, England will face off against Finland at Wembley three days later and Ireland in Dublin on Sept. 7.
