A Zimbabwean Bishop, Eben Nhiwatawi has been deported from Nigeria for violating immigration law.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kenneth Udo, a Zimbabwean Bishop named Mr. Eben K. Nhiwatawi was apprehended in Yola, Adamawa State for violating Immigration protocols.

According to Udo, the Bishop entered the country on 21st August, 2024, using a Tourist Visa (F5A) that is intended for tourism purposes only. However, it was discovered that he was involved in the Methodist Church leadership election process, which goes against the terms and privileges of the Tourist Visa as outlined in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024.

The spokesperson stated that, due to the circumstances, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service has ordered his immediate repatriation from the country with Ministerial approval.

Udo emphasized the importance of promoting lawful inflow of Foreign Direct Investment and individuals engaging in business and social activities. As key facilitators of economic growth and development, any violation of the country’s Immigration laws will not be tolerated by the Service.

He emphasized that the Service is dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s security and will diligently observe the actions of foreigners for that purpose.
