Another two crew members from Lynch’s yacht are currently under investigation, according to a source

According to a judicial source on Wednesday, Italian prosecutors are currently conducting an investigation into the sinking of the yacht of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, as well as its commander. Specifically, the investigation pertains to two additional crew members.

On August 19, the British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-meter (184-foot) yacht, capsized and sank within minutes of being struck by a pre-dawn tempest at anchor off northern Sicily, resulting in the deaths of Lynch and six other individuals.

Captain James Cutfield, a 51-year-old New Zealander, was placed under investigation for shipwreck and manslaughter on Monday. During the interrogation on Tuesday, Cutfield declined to provide a response to the prosecutors.

Tim Parker Eaton, a ship engineer, and Matthew Griffith, a sailor, are both under investigation for the same offenses, according to the source. Parker Eaton is suspected of neglecting to safeguard the yacht’s engine room and operating systems.

The source stated that Griffith was on watch duty on the night of the incident.

Investigation does not necessarily indicate culpability or ensure that formal charges will be filed.

Naval marine specialists have been perplexed by the sinking, as they believe that a vessel of the Bayesian’s caliber, which was constructed by the Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, should have been able to withstand the storm and, in any case, should not have sunk at such a pace.

The Prosecutors in Termini Imerese, a municipality located near Palermo, have stated that their investigation will necessitate the salvage of the wreck from the sea. Bayesian is situated on its right flank, approximately 50 meters (164 feet) below the surface.
