Islamist gang attacked and killed two Nigerian police officers, according to police
In the capital of Nigeria, Abuja, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria conducted an attack on Sunday that resulted in the deaths of two officers and the unconsciousness of three others.
According to a statement from police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the proscribed organization unprovoked attacked the police checkpoint with blades, improvised explosive devices, and machetes.
According to the statement, the assault also resulted in the destruction of police wagons.
Nigeria banned the Shi’ite group in 2019 following violent protests that demanded the release of its incarcerated leader.
In 2015, the Nigerian army accused the group of attempting to assassinate a former chief of army staff. In response, the group purportedly killed over 300 of its members. El Zakazy, the group’s commander, was incarcerated from 2015 to 2021.
