Former Chinese football administrators have been sentenced to imprisonment for bribery, according to CCTV

The Chinese Football Association’s former director of the competition department, Huang Song, was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment on Tuesday for accepting bribes, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Huang was also fined 600,000 yuan ($84,000), according to CCTV.

Gu Jianming, a former executive committee member of the football association, was sentenced for bribery in a separate court judgment, according to CCTV.

Gu was sentenced to six years in prison and a 400,000 yuan punishment, in addition to serving as the former governor and secretary-general of the Chengdu Football Association.

For a long time, the sport has been plagued by corruption, which supporters have attributed to the national team’s persistent underperformance. For accepting gratuities, the former vice president of the national football association was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Monday.
