Algeria will provide Lebanon with petroleum for its power plants

Algerian state radio issued a statement on Sunday announcing that it would commence the immediate delivery of fuel to Lebanon for its power facilities. This comes after Lebanon’s electricity company announced the previous day that its supplies had been depleted.

Since the 1990s, Lebanon has been without uninterrupted electricity, and the nation’s substantial public debt has been exacerbated by cash transfers to Electricité du Liban (EDL), the state-owned electricity company, to address persistent losses of tens of billions of dollars.

A complete nationwide power failure, including at critical facilities such as the airport, was proclaimed by EDL on Saturday.

It was disclosed that power supply would progressively recommence upon the acquisition of new fuel supplies, either through an exchange agreement with Iraq or from other sources.

There was no specificity in the Algerian state radio statement.
