Kenya Airports Authority has stated that the strike scheduled for August 19th will not affect its operations
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced on Friday that it had implemented contingency measures to mitigate the potential disruption of airport operations from the strike by the nation’s primary aviation union, which is scheduled to commence on August 19.
The Kenya Aviation Workers Union, which represents employees at airports and the national carrier Kenya Airways (KQNA.NR), has announced that it will commence industrial action on Monday against a proposed agreement with India’s Adani Airports Holdings to construct the nation’s largest airport in Nairobi.
In a strike notice, the union has stated that it believes the Adani deal will result in job losses and the recruitment of non-Kenyan workers. It has also referred to the transaction as the “intended sale” of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Kenya’s government has declared that the airport is not for sale and that no decision has been made regarding the potential public-private partnership to enhance the East African travel center.
“Discussions are ongoing between the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, KAA Management and Kenya Aviation Workers Union to reach an amicable agreement,” the airports authority stated in a written statement.
