Yanga SC secured their inaugural silverware of the season by defeating Azam FC in the Community Shield

On Sunday, Young Africans (Yanga SC) secured their inaugural silverware of the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Azam in the Community Shield match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The match was characterized by a flurry of goals in the first half, which culminated in Yanga achieving a commanding 3-1 advantage at the half. The match was action-packed.The advantage was initially gained by Azam through an early goal scored by Feisal Salum. Upon receiving a precise cross from Gibril Sillah, Salum tallied with a well-placed strike in the 13th minute.

The fans of Azam were delighted as Salum expertly controlled the ball with his right knee and finished with his right foot. In spite of this initial setback, Yanga promptly responded. Yanga equalized within five minutes of Salum’s opening goal, as Prince Dube capitalized on a counterattack orchestrated by Mudathir Yahya.

Despite Yannick Bangala’s attempt to obstruct him, Dube capitalized on a defensive lapse by Azam, allowing him to take a clear shot on goal.

However, Yanga’s tactical strategy was more effective, as they not only maintained a strong defensive posture but also attacked aggressively. In order to effectively manage the game, they implemented a midfield configuration that consisted of five players—three of whom were attacking and two of whom were defensive.

Following the equalizer, Azam encountered difficulty in regrouping and were further disadvantaged by an own goal scored by Yoro Diaby in the 28th minute, which was the result of a perilous cross from Chadrack Boka.

This own goal exacerbated Azam’s difficulties, as Yanga’s supporters celebrated while Azam’s followers were left feeling disheartened. Aziz Ki scored his third goal for Yanga, extending their lead barely three minutes after the own goal.

Gibril Sillah attempted to reduce the deficit with a powerful effort as the first half drew to a close. However, Yanga’s goalkeeper Djigui Diarra performed an expert save. After receiving a flawlessly placed through pass from Clatous Chama, Clement Mzize scored the fourth goal, securing Yanga’s victory.

In the initial half, Yanga’s performance was a testament to their defensive resilience and attacking capabilities, which resulted in a well-deserved victory and their inaugural trophy.
