Guido Rodriguez, an Argentina midfielder, joins West Ham on a free transfer
Guido Rodriguez, an Argentine midfielder, has joined West Ham on a free transfer, the team announced on Tuesday.
Rodriguez, who spent four and a half seasons with Real Betis, left the Spanish team earlier this summer. He now plays for the Hammers.
“I think playing in the Premier League is every footballer’s dream, so when I heard that West Ham was interested in me, I was really excited,” he added.
Rodriguez was a member of the Argentina team that won the Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024 in addition to the World Cup in 2022.
The 30-year-old Rodriguez stated, “I will bring experience to the team. Though I’m aware the Premier League is very physical, I’m ready to put in the work to make sure I’m up to the task.”
The signing was deemed “a big statement of intent by the club,” according to Tim Steidten, technical director of West Ham.
On August 17, West Ham, which placed ninth in the previous year, will play its Premier League opener against Aston Villa.
