The top-ranked nominee for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards is Taylor Swift, followed by Post Malone

The most recent evidence that this is Taylor Swift’s universe is the MTV Video Music Award nominees.

The vocalist of “The Tortured Poets Department” is once again the front-runner with ten nominations, including eight for her “Fortnight” music video and nominations in the best pop and artist of the year categories. Post Malone, who has worked with Swift on “Fortnight,” is next in line. He has collaborated with Swift on the song “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen, and has received nine nominations overall.

The remaining candidates for the artist of the year category, which were revealed on Tuesday, are SZA, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, and Ariana Grande.

Swift won nine VMAs in the previous year, for a remarkable total of 23. That puts her slightly ahead of Madonna, who has twenty accolades, and Lady Gaga, who has nineteen, and behind Beyoncé, who has twenty-eight (two with Destiny’s Child).

On September 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern, live coverage of the 2024 MTV VMAs will begin.

With six nods apiece, Grande, Carpenter, and Eminem are tied; Megan Thee Stallion and SZA each receive five. Teddy Swims, Olivia Rodrigo, and LISA of Blackpink have four nominations apiece.

There are 29 new candidates this year, including Wallen, Carpenter, and Swims in addition to Benson Boone and Tyla, who each have three nominations.

Chappell Roan, Coco Jones, Gracie Abrams, Jelly Roll, Jessie Murph, LE SSERAFIM, Morgan Wallen, Rauw Alejandro, RAYE, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tyla, Tyler Childers, Victoria Monet, and others are also up for nomination for the first time in 2024.

The UBS Arena on Long Island, New York, will host the VMAs. Online fan voting for 15 gender-neutral categories starts on Tuesday and runs through August 30.

Throughout the performance, votes for the best new artist category will be accepted.
