Julien Alfred Wins Gold in the Olympic 100m, St. Lucia’s First-Ever Medal

Alfred became the first-ever medallist from St. Lucia when she easily won the Olympic women’s 100-meter gold in Paris in 2024.

As St. Lucia’s first-ever medalist at a Games, Julien Alfred made history in Paris 2024 by winning the Olympic women’s 100-meter gold with ease.

Alfred easily won the championship in a national record time of 10.72 seconds, dominating the competition as the rain steadily fell at a boisterous Stade de France.

Sha’Carri Richardson, the world champion American, grabbed silver in 10.87, while Melissa Jefferson, another native, finished third in 10.92.

Daryll Neita of Great Britain crossed the finish line in 10.96, four hundredths of a second off the podium in fourth place.

Neita achieved the greatest result for a British athlete in an Olympic sprint final in 64 years, but that won’t help her much in her quest for her first global gold as an individual.
