NBA icon extends support following the tragic death of a Georgia child, as the family and community seek answers.
In a poignant moment that resonated throughout Georgia, Shaquille O’Neal offered his support to the family of 12-year-old Jada West after her untimely passing. The NBA legend announced on Tuesday that he will take care of her funeral expenses after discovering the situation through media reports, providing support during this profoundly difficult time.
“This story resonated with me the instant I encountered it in the media,” O’Neal expressed. “As a father, I deeply empathize with Jada’s family.”
On March 5, an incident occurred near a school bus stop in the Ashley Place neighborhood, located west of Atlanta. Family members reported that Jada was involved in an altercation shortly after disembarking from the bus. After the confrontation, she stood up but later collapsed, was hospitalized, and placed in a coma before passing away days later.
O’Neal expressed that his choice was driven by empathy as a parent and a wish to assist.
“No parent should ever have to bury their child,” O’Neal expressed. “Any way I can lessen that burden is the right thing to do.”
He is collaborating with Reginald B. Scandrett and Tim Pounds to organize support initiatives for the family as the investigation proceeds. Community leaders emphasize their commitment to supporting Jada’s family while actively pursuing answers.
“The tragic loss of a child’s life impacts us all,” Pounds stated. “Our objective is straightforward. We wish to convey to Jada’s family that they are not alone.
Officials have verified that the case is still being investigated.
