Israel Reports Killing of Iranian Intelligence Minister in Overnight Operation

Israel reports that Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib was “eliminated” in an overnight strike.

Israel has taken responsibility for the assassination of Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib, characterizing it as a precise overnight operation, which signifies a notable increase in tensions with Iran.

On Wednesday, Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, declared that Khatib had been “eliminated” during the operation. Nonetheless, Iranian authorities have not yet verified the reported death.

The assertion arises during a period of intensified tensions between the two nations, as both parties find themselves in a more direct conflict after weeks of regional unrest.

Katz also revealed that he and Benjamin Netanyahu have given the military broader authority to conduct additional targeted strikes against high-ranking Iranian officials without needing further approvals.

The directive indicates a possible change in Israel’s military stance, implying a more assertive strategy towards dismantling Iran’s leadership framework in light of continuing tensions.
