Trump Responds to Kent’s Resignation, Labels Former Counterterrorism Chief as ‘Weak on Security’
Trump brushes off Joe Kent’s resignation protest, firmly asserts that Iran was a threat, and robustly defends his decision regarding US military action.
Donald Trump has responded to former counterterrorism chief Joe Kent after Kent’s resignation in protest of US military action against Iran, rejecting his position and questioning his judgment on national security.
In response to Joseph Kent’s decision to resign as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Trump expressed criticism towards the former official, implying that his departure was warranted.
“I have always perceived him as lacking in security.” Significantly lacking in security. I was not very familiar with him. However, I perceived him as quite a pleasant individual. Upon reading his statement, I came to the conclusion that his departure is beneficial, as he claimed Iran posed no threat.
Kent had previously stepped down due to the administration’s approach to the Iran conflict, contending that Tehran did not present an immediate threat to the United States and cautioning against what he termed a misguided war.
Trump’s comments further widen the divide between the president and his former chief counterterrorism adviser, amid rising tensions regarding the rationale and trajectory of US military engagement in Iran.
