DJ Mustard Achieves Victory in Court, Gains Authority Over Children’s Educational Choices from Ex-Wife
DJ Mustard has achieved a significant victory in court, granting him authority over an important parenting decision.
The court has granted Dijon McFarlane, the producer, the authority to make educational decisions for his three children with ex-wife Chanel Thierry until August 2026. The decision follows concerns brought up in court regarding Thierry’s social media presence and its potential effects on their co-parenting relationship.
Court documents reveal that the judge determined certain posts made by Thierry breached a previous order mandating both parents to refrain from communicating in a “negative, disrespectful, or derogatory manner to or about the other parent in a child’s presence or within hearing distance of the child.” This finding granted Mustard tie-breaking authority over school-related decisions for Kiylan, Kauner, and Kody.
The court mandated that both parents participate in high-conflict co-parenting therapy, indicating that the situation requires ongoing structure as they move forward. Mustard is required to present a list of three qualified therapists, from which Thierry will choose one. Although he has acquired decision-making authority in one area, both parties continue to be encouraged to enhance their collaborative efforts, particularly in areas such as communication and conflict resolution, to ensure a healthier co-parenting relationship.
Mustard sought $30,000 in sanctions; however, the judge chose not to impose any financial penalties. Mark Vincent Kaplan, Thierry’s attorney, stated, “It is only for five more months from now, so it’s not permanent, and only for educational decisions.”
Currently, Mustard retains the ultimate authority on school matters, even as time continues to pass.
