Lizzo has embarked on her journey as an author, and her children’s book is accompanied by a song
Grammy-winning artist Lizzo is broadening her creative horizons with a new children’s book drawn from her own childhood experiences with music.
On Monday, the 37-year-old singer announced that she has authored a picture book titled Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’, inspired by her formative experiences with the flute. Lizzo announced the news on Instagram, showcasing the vibrant book cover and celebrating her latest achievement as an author.
The narrative centers around a joyful young girl on a quest for her place in the world and a lively flute named Sasha B. Flootin’ who is on her own journey to discover her melody. The two characters support one another in uncovering confidence, friendship, and self-expression.
“People often inquire about how I began playing the flute … the truth is, I didn’t select the flute; the flute selected me!” Lizzo shared in her announcement on Instagram.
The book features an interactive element for readers to engage with. Every copy will feature a QR code that grants access to an original song crafted by Lizzo exclusively for the project, enabling children to engage with the story through both reading and music.
Lizzo shared that the book captures her childhood challenges and illustrates how music played a pivotal role in helping her discover confidence and identity.
“In my youth, I faced challenges in finding my place, yet playing the flute allowed me to discover my voice,” Lizzo stated in a press release. “I hope this book inspires every young person to understand that their passion can provide them with purpose and a sense of belonging and guide them on a journey to achieve their greatest dreams.”
Kendra Levin, VP and editorial director of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, expressed that the narrative embodies the uplifting message Lizzo has conveyed throughout her career.
“Lil Lizzo Meets Sasha B. Flootin’” is set to be released by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers on September 8 and is now available for preorder.
