FIFA has declined Iran’s request to relocate matches
FIFA has reportedly turned down Iran’s request to relocate its World Cup 2026 matches from the United States to Mexico. The request followed Iranian officials voicing security concerns and indicating a desire to refrain from competing on American territory due to the current geopolitical tensions.
After some initial doubts regarding participation, Iran has now confirmed its intention to take part in the tournament.
Reports indicate that FIFA intends to maintain the scheduled venues in Los Angeles and Seattle. Officials consider this action to be impractical, as tickets have already been sold, and changing the locations would lead to logistical complications for the other teams in the group, which could disrupt the overall tournament schedule and fan attendance.
Consequently, it appears that Iran will probably need to compete in its matches in the United States as initially intended.
