Ruth’s Chris Steak House Strengthens Dress Code — No Hats Permitted at the Table

Ruth’s Chris Steak House is encouraging guests to remember that attending a steak dinner calls for appropriate attire.

The upscale restaurant chain has recently updated its website with a notice emphasizing its “business casual” dress code policy, clearly stating that hats are not allowed inside the dining rooms. Guests wearing hats, such as baseball caps, may be requested to remove them or directed to dine in the bar or lounge area instead, as indicated in the message.

“Business casual — appropriate attire is required, please,” the notice states.

The policy additionally specifies the types of clothing that are not allowed in the dining room. The restaurant’s guidelines specify that gym wear, pool attire, tank tops, clothing featuring offensive graphics or language, revealing outfits, and exposed undergarments are prohibited during the dining experience.

Although the reason behind the company’s decision to issue this updated dress code reminder remains unclear, guests are advised to review it prior to visiting their nearest Ruth’s Chris. The reminder comes as the steakhouse brand remains in operation under Darden Restaurants. In 2023, the restaurant group purchased the parent company of Ruth’s Chris in a transaction worth around $715 million.

“Ruth’s Chris is a prominent and unique brand in the fine dining sector, boasting a remarkable history of providing exceptional dining experiences to their devoted guests,” Darden CEO Rick Cardenas stated at the time of the acquisition announcement.

The brand has its origins in 1927, with the establishment of the original Chris Steak House in New Orleans. In 1965, entrepreneur Ruth Fertel acquired the restaurant and rebranded it as Ruth’s Chris Steak House.

The steakhouse currently has locations across the globe.
