Police Fatally Shoot Security Guard During Confrontation at Jasmine Crockett Campaign Event in Dallas

Officials report that the individual had previously provided security for the Texas congresswoman and was sought for impersonating law enforcement.

A tense police standoff in Dallas concluded with the death of a man who had previously served as security for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.

The shooting involving Jasmine Crockett’s security detail is now prompting inquiries into the background of a man who allegedly accompanied the Texas lawmaker during campaign events.

CBS News reported that the incident occurred Wednesday night when a man named Mike King entered a hospital parking garage as law enforcement tried to confront him. Officers from a SWAT unit surrounded the vehicle where he had barricaded himself, leading to a rapid escalation into a standoff.

The officers released tear gas in an attempt to compel King to exit the vehicle. Officials report that he subsequently exited and brandished a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in his death. According to law enforcement sources, CBS reported that King was sought for allegedly posing as a police officer while managing an online platform named Off Duty Police Services. The site allegedly linked North Texas police officers to off-duty security positions.

Images acquired by CBS additionally depict King offering security at events for Crockett and accompanying the congresswoman during her recent campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas. Crockett ultimately did not succeed in the Democratic primary against Texas State Representative James Talarico.

CBS also examined documents indicating that a man named King was compensated for “security services” related to Crockett in 2025.

Investigators are actively examining the events that resulted in the standoff.
