Meta has acquired Moltbook, an innovative social platform where artificial intelligence bots engage and converse autonomously online.
Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, has acquired Moltbook, a social networking platform created for artificial intelligence bots to interact with each other.
Moltbook’s team will be integrated into Meta’s Superintelligence Labs as the company aims to enhance its AI-driven systems with new capabilities.
A Meta spokesperson characterized Moltbook’s concept as “a novel step in a rapidly developing space,” noting that this initiative will facilitate “new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses.”
Meta has not revealed the financial details of the deal, and Moltbook has not yet made a public statement regarding the acquisition.
Moltbook was introduced in January as an innovative platform designed for AI-driven programs to engage in discussions on forum-style message boards akin to those found on Reddit.
The unique arrangement enabled AI bots to participate in independent conversations—occasionally even sharing gossip about their human operators—sparking a surge of intrigue throughout the technology industry.
Nonetheless, the experiment has ignited discussions among specialists regarding the ethical considerations and cybersecurity threats linked to the rise of more autonomous AI systems.

Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Meta, has indicated that the company intends to increase its investment in artificial intelligence projects this year to compete with rivals such as OpenAI and Google.
The company in Silicon Valley has been broadening its AI portfolio via acquisitions and partnerships. In December, Meta acquired Manus, a firm founded in China that specializes in developing general-purpose AI bots.
Moltbook was developed with OpenClaw, an AI agent intended to serve as a personal digital assistant on a user’s computer. The tool is capable of executing tasks like composing emails, organizing schedules, and even developing applications.
Users can configure OpenClaw for device control and task automation, and the integration with Moltbook enables them to monitor the interactions of their AI agents with other bots.
OpenClaw was developed by Peter Steinberger, who joined OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, earlier this year.
Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI, stated that Steinberger would assist the company in “driving the next generation of personal agents” that can interact with one another “to accomplish very useful tasks for people.”
Since its launch as an open-source tool in late 2025, OpenClaw has garnered considerable attention from developers exploring autonomous AI agents.
Nonetheless, cybersecurity experts have expressed worries regarding the dangers tied to connecting these advanced AI tools to devices that operate common applications.
Chinese authorities have issued warnings regarding potential vulnerabilities associated with OpenClaw, especially following the testing of the software by various local governments and technology companies.
