Images emerging from the scene depict dense black smoke rising from one of the damaged vessels as rescue efforts commenced for its crew. Authorities have confirmed that emergency teams are currently rescuing 23 crew members from the ship.
The assaults took place in a vital maritime chokepoint, a route through which a considerable share of the world’s oil supplies flows daily. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz can significantly affect international energy markets and shipping routes without delay.
The event follows closely on the heels of a significant operation reported by the United States military in the region. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces “eliminated 16 Iranian mine-laying ships” that were operating near the strait.
Previously, US President Donald Trump cautioned Tehran, stating that Iran should “not deploy any mines” in the crucial shipping route.
In distinct footage shared by United States Central Command, an Iranian vessel is visible just moments before being hit by a US missile amid the ongoing maritime operations.
The maritime incident comes amid a widening conflict across the Middle East. Iranian forces have persistently carried out strikes aimed at several countries in the region, such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.
Authorities in Dubai reported that four individuals sustained injuries following the collision of two drones near Dubai International Airport. Officials stated that the incident did not interfere with air traffic, though it represented the second drone attack in the vicinity in recent days.
At the same time, Israel has initiated fresh airstrikes aimed at sites in Iran and Lebanon. Local reports from Beirut indicate that an apartment building in the central part of the Lebanese capital was hit during the latest wave of attacks.
Within Iran, officials have delivered a strong admonition regarding internal dissent as tensions escalate. The police chief of the country cautioned that those who try to protest against the government will encounter serious repercussions.
“We will address them in the same manner we confront the enemy,” the official stated, alluding to possible anti-government protests.
