Prime Minister Calls Explosion Outside US Embassy In Oslo ‘Unacceptable’

Explosion shakes US Embassy in Oslo; Prime Minister deems it “unacceptable,” and police initiate extensive investigation.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has characterized the explosion outside the US Embassy in Oslo early Sunday morning as a “very serious and completely unacceptable incident.”

The explosion took place at approximately 1:00 a.m. near the consular entrance of the embassy. Authorities suspect that the act was intentional and could be connected to the ongoing security-political climate, underscoring the seriousness of the incident, Støre stated.

The Prime Minister stated that he had a conversation with the head of the embassy on Sunday. “I highlighted that the government is diligently monitoring the situation.

The Foreign Minister and the Minister of Justice have also been actively involved. Støre stated, “The police and PST [Norwegian Police Security Service] are currently dedicating substantial resources to the investigation.”

He assured the public that there is no sign the situation poses a threat to residents in Oslo or anywhere else in Norway. “Nonetheless, enhanced security protocols have been established around the embassy, along with other American, Israeli, and Jewish locations,” he noted.

PST highlighted that the threat level for American interests in Norway remains the same and is still regarded as moderate.
