Jesse Jackson Jr. Criticizes Democratic Presidents for Leveraging His Father’s Funeral to Target Trump

Son of Civil Rights Icon Asserts Biden, Obama, and Harris Jesse Jackson Jr. claimed that Biden, Obama, and Harris did not fully understand the late minister after the political tributes were made.

The final farewell to a civil rights icon has ignited criticism directed at the nation’s leading Democrats.

On Saturday, Jesse Jackson Jr. criticized former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton, claiming they transformed his father’s memorial service into an opportunity for political posturing. During a private service at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in Chicago, Jackson Jr. implied that the prominent speakers did not fully grasp the essence of the man they were honoring.

Jesse Jackson Jr. has certainly faced his share of political controversy. The ex-Illinois congressman spent over a year in federal prison after admitting guilt in 2013 for misappropriating approximately $750,000 in campaign funds for personal use, which included luxury goods and home improvements. Federal authorities prosecuted the case during the Obama administration, and Jackson stepped down from Congress prior to starting his sentence in 2014.

“Yesterday, I spent several hours listening to three presidents of the United States who are unfamiliar with Jesse Jackson,” the sorrowful son shared with those in attendance. He contended that the political heavyweights who addressed Friday’s public service at the House of Hope did not fully understand the Reverend’s independent, “prophetic” mission.

The tension arises from a sequence of comments that redirected attention from the Reverend’s life to the present political landscape. Barack Obama cautioned against a “new assault on our democratic institutions” and condemned leaders for endorsing “greed and bigotry.” Joe Biden asserted that the Trump administration lacks “any of the values that we have,” while former Vice President Kamala Harris remarked to the audience, “I’m not into saying ‘I told you so,’ but we did see it coming.”

Jackson Jr. emphasized that his father’s legacy transcended partisan loyalty, focusing instead on the importance of holding each administration accountable. “He upheld a strained relationship with the political establishment, not due to the race of the presidents, but because the essence of our message—the need to advocate for the marginalized, the forsaken, the deprived, and the disregarded—called for solutions that transcended Democratic or Republican ideologies. It required a steadfast, prophetic voice that never compromised our integrity as a people,” he expressed.

Reverend Jesse Jackson died last month at the age of 84. Although Bill Clinton’s tribute was primarily personal, the general atmosphere of the public event led the Jackson family to feel that their patriarch’s lifetime of service was being utilized as a backdrop for campaign-style rhetoric.
