Tunisia is set to invest $1 billion in the expansion of Tunis-Carthage airport, aiming to quadruple its capacity
Tunisia intends to enhance its primary Tunis-Carthage airport with an estimated investment of around 3 billion dinars ($1 billion), with the goal of nearly quadrupling passenger capacity as part of initiatives to modernize air transport infrastructure.
On Sunday, the Transport Ministry announced that the project aims to boost the airport’s capacity from approximately 5 million passengers to 18.5 million passengers each year by 2031.
The ministry announced that the Civil Aviation and Airports Authority’s 2026 investment budget now includes the expansion project.
Tunisia has temporarily set aside plans to construct a new airport and has chosen to expand Tunis-Carthage International Airport instead, according to the ministry.
