UEFA has taken action against Real Madrid following a racist gesture

Real Madrid faces sanctions from UEFA due to a racist incident that occurred during the second leg of the Champions League playoff against Benfica. A fan of the Spanish club was captured on video performing a Nazi salute in the stands, an image that rapidly circulated on social media.

Even though security personnel promptly removed the individual from the stadium, the governing body continued to hold the club accountable for the actions of its supporter.

UEFA has imposed a fine of 15,000 euros and mandated the partial closure of the lower south stand at the Santiago Bernabéu, impacting 500 seats, for Real Madrid’s upcoming home match in a UEFA competition.

The organization denounced the racist behavior and reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy. Real Madrid had previously condemned the actions of the supporter following the incident.
