Mathew Knowles Ends Interview Following Host’s Mention of Tina Knowles’ Involvement with Destiny’s Child

A television interview intended to highlight Destiny’s Child’s legacy took an awkward turn when Mathew Knowles raised questions about the credit his former wife should receive.

Mathew Knowles recently joined PIX11 anchor Kendis Gibson on the show “Kandid with Kendis” to discuss his Destiny’s Child tribute tour. In the conversation, Gibson recognized the extensive efforts that Mathew and Tina Knowles dedicated to shaping the careers of their daughters and the group that emerged as one of the most successful R&B acts in history.

“You’ve truly earned your flowers,” Gibson remarked to him. “You all put in the effort.”

Matthew disagreed with that perspective.

“What effort did she invest?” he inquired suddenly.

The reply seemed to surprise Gibson. After a moment’s hesitation, he replied, “The hair.”

Knowles subsequently reevaluated the point. “You are completely correct,” he replied. “And the design.” The imaging process. You are correct.

Fans of Destiny’s Child widely acknowledge Tina’s impact on the group’s image. Prior to Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams donning designer fashion onstage, Tina crafted numerous early looks for them herself. A skilled hairstylist who owned a salon in Houston, she created coordinated stage outfits and played a key role in shaping the group’s striking visual identity during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The discussion concluded shortly after the interaction. When the interview concluded, Gibson inquired, “Did I say something wrong?”

Mathew later mentioned that he chose to conclude the interview prematurely because it had “started on a bad note,” clarifying that he wanted to focus the conversation on the Destiny’s Child tribute concert he is currently promoting.

Page Six reports that the production challenged the notion that Gibson had strayed from the topic, asserting that the host was merely “giving them their flowers” for their contributions to the group’s legacy.
