Lamar Odom Claims He Experienced the “Afterlife” Following His Survival of 12 Strokes and 6 Heart Attacks During a 2015 Overdose

Lamar Odom, a former NBA champion, is sharing his story about the life-threatening overdose that almost took his life, describing the experience as akin to entering the afterlife.

Odom looks back on the 2015 incident in the forthcoming Netflix documentary “Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom,” set to premiere on March 31. Directed by Ryan Duffy, the film chronicles the journey of the former Los Angeles Lakers forward as he reflects on his basketball achievements, his struggle with addiction, and the medical crisis that transformed his life.

In the trailer, Odom reveals the severity of the health crisis that followed his unconscious discovery at a Nevada brothel in October 2015.

“I experienced 12 strokes and six heart attacks,” Odom states. “That’s not your typical stuff.”

He asserts that the experience transported him to a realm beyond physical pain.

“The afterlife is not what people portray it to be,” Odom states in a concluding moment from the preview.

The documentary features interviews with individuals who were close to him during that period, including his ex-wife Khloé Kardashian. The couple wed in 2009 and separated in 2013, with Kardashian reflecting on her efforts to protect Odom’s challenges from the public eye.

She expresses that she frequently felt it was her duty “to conceal his issues and safeguard him,” recalling instances when Odom would exit rehab programs and vanish during drug binges.

Odom has persistently engaged in public discussions about the origins of his addiction. While on the “Cousins” podcast hosted by Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, he shared that his use of substances started in his teenage years.

“It all began with pot,” he replied when questioned about the origin.

“If you begin with pot and it no longer provides a high, you might think, ‘Perhaps I’ll give cocaine a try,’” Odom remarked. “I experienced some unforgettable summers filled with excitement.” You’re speaking with someone who truly struggles with addiction.

At 46, Odom has expressed his commitment to accountability and recovery as he strives to rebuild his life.
